I created this thread to provide updates on what is happening with SelfPayMD.com. This is to provide transparency, build rapport with potential new patients, for SEO, but also to vent and show how unbelievably regulated this industry is and how the deck is stacked against doctors from the get go.
Not a happy update for SelfPayMD - just like thousands of others I recently got put in Facebook jail with a life sentence. I followed the rules very closely, I paid thousands of dollars to get LegitScript certified, I got Meta verified, I made a SelfPayMD business page on Facebook and Instagram.
I paid thousands more in advertising, none of which was remotely questionable from a regulatory standpoint, not even close.
Meta approved each ad that I ran. I cultivated about 1100 followers with content and paid ads and finally got to see some paid medical visits as a result of those efforts.
On Oct 9, 2026, Meta disabled all of my accounts, including my personal account of 20 years with 4800 friends. I appealed and was denied, final decision.
The vague reason Meta gave is that gun and drug advertising is not allowed. Apparently Meta has allowed AI to police all accounts and is aggressively banning accounts with no recourse whatsoever.
There is a group online of Facebook and Instagram account holders who were also banned without cause and they are organizing and hopefully will show standing to file a class action lawsuit.
There is even a website collecting data on this wave of banned accounts called Meta observatory dot com.
I suspect Meta will become involved in yet another class action lawsuit if things continue as they are.
The whole purpose of LegitScript certification was purportedly to ensure regulatory compliance -- yet Meta now says any medical advertising is a violation resulting in forfeiture of your account and all ad money spent. I reached out to LegitScript and was essentially told not their problem. My take is that they got their money so they have no interest in assisting.
If you are already national counsel for a class action lawsuit in this matter please reach out to me as I would be happy to be a lead plaintiff in a complaint.
[Motley Rice, Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, Bona Law, any interest in taking on Meta and/or LegitScript? ]
And yes, I know Meta can ban personal accounts for any reason at any time.
My claim, and for those similarly situated, is that Meta accepted advertising money for a business page, required me to get LegitScript verified, approved my ads, then cancelled the accounts with no explanation and no refund.
There are thousands of people like me that have been impacted by this AI ban from Meta, just look at the graph in meta observatory.
The expenses and loss of income are substantial for SelfPayMD, and collectively with all telemedicine providers suddenly getting banned there are substantial damages at stake should this go Court.
At this time I am not placing blame with LegitScript, it appears to be Meta’s AI running amuck unsupervised. Nonetheless, the agreement and understanding going through LegitScript certification was to avoid this exact outcome and they are unwilling or unable to help.
To my Facebook followers and potential patients I met on my business page, no, I did not ghost you!
And some advice to all other small businesses: never spend ad money with Meta. They can and will rug pull with no notice or explanation! Go on Reddit and read some of the horror stories of small businesses and content creators who have been decimated by Meta AI’s arbitrary and capricious actions. Clearly I am not alone in this, some 120,000 accounts were banned in recent weeks. Making it worse is that there is no human to even talk to. Apparently Meta only listens once you file a claim in Court in California, an incredible waste of everyone’s time and money. Thanks for listening and be careful out there -- protect your business and take your advertising dollars elsewhere!
